Pieter Ferreira

Founding Cellarmaster

Pieter Ferreira’s name became inseparable from the rise of Graham Beck and the global recognition of South African Cap Classique. As Founding Cellarmaster, he guided the House from its maiden vintage in 1991, establishing the philosophy and standards that continue to define it.

From the beginning, Pieter believed Cap Classique could stand alongside the world’s finest sparkling wines. Through meticulous vineyard selection and disciplined cellar practice, he helped position Graham Beck as the global leader in Cap Classique.

Over nearly four decades, Pieter had a role in shaping both the wines and the culture of the House. His work was grounded in patience and restraint, led by the understanding that time is essential to achieving balance, structure and finesse. These principles remain central to every vintage.

Beyond the cellar, Pieter became one of the most respected figures in Cap Classique. As Chairman of the Cap Classique Producers Association, he helped advance the category on the global stage, mentoring a generation of winemakers and elevating the international standing of South African sparkling wine.

In 2026, Pieter formally retired from his role at Graham Beck, marking a generational transition for the House. His legacy endures in the vineyards, the cellar and the standards he established over a lifetime devoted to the craft.

Today, stewardship of the cellar continues under Cellarmaster Pierre de Klerk. Having worked alongside Pieter for 15 years, he leads the winemaking team with the same enduring pursuit of the perfect bubble that defines the House.

Pieter Ferreira’s contribution remains foundational - a legacy built on conviction and craftsmanship.
