CellarMaster
After joining the Graham Beck team in October 2010, bringing with him impressive experience from leading local and international cellars, Pierre de Klerk spent 15 years working alongside Cap Classique icon Pieter "Bubbles" Ferreira. Drawn by the complexity and precision that define world-class sparkling wine production, Pierre went on to assume the role of Cellarmaster and now holds full stewardship of the cellar following Pieter's retirement in January 2026. In recognition of his expertise and leadership within the category, Pierre was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Cap Classique Producers Association in June 2026, further cementing his role in shaping the future of South African Cap Classique.
There is no other wine style with so many intricacies and challenges involved in the production process," Pierre shares. "The joy of producing a finely balanced, exquisite Cap Classique is boundless. Crafting world-class traditional method sparkling wines demands your undivided attention, passion, dedication and creativity. There is no room for error - only endless scope for refinement and innovation.
Pierre's philosophy centres on precision and patience in the cellar, guided by a deep respect for vineyard character and the craft of Cap Classique. Each decision, from harvest timing to blending and final dosage, is approached with meticulous care in the ongoing pursuit of the perfect bubble.
From harvest through blending and final tastings, Pierre leads the cellar with a spirit of mastery and discovery. Innovation and research remain central to his work, while mentorship continues the legacy he inherited. Above all, his dedication reflects an unwavering passion for Cap Classique and a commitment to continually refining the House style.
